Dustin Rowell-Owner

In 1955, William D. Rowell of Waynesboro, GA, started Rowell Electric Company.  He began the company by working on radiators and rewinding electric motors.  He evolved the small shop into a full HVAC and electrical company, offering the best quality products and service in Waynesboro, The Bird Dog Capital of the World. When the company decided to separate in 2016, Rowell Heating & Air, LLC was formed. We are an established Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer who has provided Carrier equipment for over 50 years to the citizens of Burke County.  Our company provides installation, service, and maintenance on all residential and commercial equipment.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I am a third-generation owner who took full ownership of the HVAC in 2016. I was an on-site field engineer for Brasfield & Gorrie which caused me to be out of town for extended periods of time. I loved that job but missed being with my family. My wife and kids were my inspiration for making the decision to start Rowell Heating & Air, LLC.

What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?

I have always had a great work ethic and the desire to help people. This type of business showcases both of those attributes. Customer service is a huge part of our company. Our employees and management team make sure you have a great experience and our company culture reflects that on every service call. This type of culture has helped us grow as a company and have a more personal relationship with our customers.

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

I started working at young age on the farm with my grandpa so working hard was instilled in me very early. At 13, I started learning the HVAC and electrical trades and that still continues today.

What has been your biggest success to date?

One of our biggest successes is our dedicated employees. We have been able to grow our business substantially due to their hard work and dedication. Without them we would not be where we are today.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Our biggest challenge is finding more qualified help to assist with the growth of our company. As trade certified personal are drastically decreasing, we are always involved in recruiting new employees.

Which small businesses are you inspired by?

Dyess Air has been an inspiration for me as a hvac owner. He started his own company and has now grown to 20 million gross revenue yearly. He is always happy to provide me with great advice and is willing to share his experience to better grow and serve our customers. Not many business owners will take the time to help other competitors with growing their business.

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

There is not much that replaces hard work. With that being said, hard work has definitely paid off but doesn’t help much on the business side of things. I would definitely have taken business courses before I began this journey.

What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start their own business?

The best advice is to work hard and have a plan for your business. Surround yourself with great employees and implement those plans.
