{Chicken Salad Chick is THE place for chicken salad lovers to rejoice! We’ve taken this Southern favorite to a whole new level with 12 flavors of chicken salad served from the heart. We make our delicious chicken salad by hand every morning, using only premium chicken tenderloin. Our recipes are crafted with the perfect combination of sweet and savory ingredients and our secret blend of spices and seasoning. Beyond chicken salad, our fans rave about our fresh side items (especially our grape salad and broccoli salad!), our homemade pimento cheese, gourmet soups & seasonal desserts.}

What inspired you to start your own business?

We’ve always had the entrepreneurial spirit, Tim especially, and finding this concept and the folks behind it was just a perfect match us.

What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?

Taking ownership and personal responsibility of our situation allows us to make ourselves better at what we do.  Also, we are eager to provide our guests with a superb experience on every visit.  It is addictive and our team and guests feed off this.  Building that culture within our restaurants has been key.  Without our management team reinforcing our thoughts, it would not be possible.

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

im is in medical sales and Kelly a stay at home Mom.  We always enjoyed entertaining and making folks feel at home.  So, when we found this concept that was basically an extension of our front porch hospitality, it clicked for us.  We asked many questions of the pioneer owners until we understood all that we could.  Listened especially close when our founder and director of operations spoke.  Much of their wisdom and learnings were the most beneficial.  We listen to feedback from our guests continually and use that to coach the team.

What has been your biggest success to date?

Reaching the five year mark at our flagship Savannah Store and opening store #4 in Bluffton was a big milestone for us and our team. And something that makes us extremely proud is the longevity of our team members and managers.  We have been blessed to have a lot of them on board for 2,3 and 4 years.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Biggest challenge would be ourselves.  Our organization cannot be successful without us thinking forward and setting goals and sticking to them.  Focus and adapting is a challenge in a changing market.  This has been especially true with the Covid-19 situation.

Which small businesses are you inspired by?

Auspicious Bakery and Ben’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill.  They are doing something they love and have been successful for that reason.  They both serve the community an incredible product with a genuine smile.

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

We would have negotiated our leases a little differently.  But that is really something you learn with experience.  Scrutinized our locations and parking a little harder.

What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start their own business?

Situational leadership is critical… the devil is in the details.  Ask lots of questions. Never stop learning, especially from your mistakes.
