Randy's Wrecker and Service Center Small Business Spotlight

BRL, Inc. dba Randy's Wrecker & Service Center

800 S. Lewis St., Metter, GA 30439

Opened for business since April, 1991

What inspired you to start your own business?

I had owned an auto parts store and small wrecker and saw the need in Metter for the auto repair shop and wrecker service.

What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?

I want to help people to the best of my ability. I believe that as an owt1er of a small business we need to be dependable, honest and prompt in doing whatever job comes to US.

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

I began working at a local parts store at age 13. From there I worked for two different dealerships in the parts area and became responsible for the towing at one of them. My interest really grew in the towing area. I finally bought my own parts store and built my first wrecker. After selling the parts store, I built what is now Randy's Wrecker and Service Center.

What has been your biggest success to date?

People now know our name and trust us with their business. That has been my goal since starting the business.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge we find is having staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have a wonderful staff including both of my sons but sometimes it seems like we never have enough.

Which small businesses are you inspired by?

I became friends with the owner of a wrecker service in Port Wentworth. He has been so successful and a mentor to me over the years.

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

I have had great staff over the years in the office handling the book work but have found that having a family member working in that area for you can make all the difference.

What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start their own business?

You might have to start small but dream big. Don't ever give up.
