What inspired you to start your own business?

I was inspired to start my own business because of my love for the outdoors. I wanted to offer my expertise of the things that I have enjoyed my entire life to others so that they could also experience my enjoyment.

What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?

What inspires me to do Starling Adventures is everything is outdoors in nature and you can’t predict nature. Every day is a different adventure, bringing something new to see and do.

What sets me apart is the tailored experience that I offer. My services allow one on one time with each client and a customized adventure to fit them and their experience level. Most other guide services share land with other groups or have multiple groups booked at once, but I hunt private land and I only have one group booked at a time.

What is your background and how did you develop the skills to start your business?

My background in the outdoors goes all the way back to my father Taylor Starling taking me out and showing me what the outdoors had to offer at a young age. From that I have developed skills in the outdoors to hunt, fish, and a great love for bird dogs.

What has been your biggest success to date?

I consider my greatest success is being able to do what I love in the outdoors for a living.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My greatest challenge has been keeping up with the changing times and the shrinking number of people that enjoy the wing shooting sport of quail hunting.

Which small businesses are you inspired by?

I’m not necessarily inspired by one, but all small businesses. The owners put a lot of time and effort into their business knowing the high risk/reward but continue to move forward because they know that owning your own business is the greatest accomplishment in the business world.

If you could go back to the beginning knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?

I would not change anything for the things that I failed at has made me stronger today. I needed to fail so that I could learn from my mistakes and be a better business owner and guide.

What’s your best advice for someone who wants to start their own business?

Put 200% into it and go after every opportunity that you see can help you be more successful. If you fail, get up and go again.
